Frequently Asked Questions

What is eating disorder recovery coaching?

Recovery coaching is a collaborative, client-centered approach that supports individuals as they work toward healing from disordered eating. As a coach, I walk alongside you—offering guidance, accountability, resources, and lived experience—to help you stay connected to recovery in daily life.

How is recovery coaching different from therapy?

Recovery coaching is not therapy. Therapy often explores the deeper psychological roots of your behaviors and emotions, typically through a licensed mental health professional. Recovery coaching, on the other hand, focuses on practical tools, goal-setting, and action-based strategies. We work on building habits, practicing exposures, navigating daily challenges, and tracking progress in real-world settings.

Is a recovery coach a replacement for a treatment team?

No. Recovery coaching is one piece of a full treatment plan, not a replacement for it. I strongly recommend working with a full treatment team, which may include:
-
A licensed therapist or psychologist
-
A registered dietitian
-
A primary care provider
-
A psychiatrist (if applicable)
As a recovery coach, I collaborate with you and your team to ensure cohesive support throughout your recovery.
How is individual recovery coaching different from inpatient or outpatient care?
Inpatient and outpatient programs are often clinical, highly structured, and time-intensive. While they can be essential in certain phases of recovery, they aren’t accessible or appropriate for everyone.

Recovery coaching offers:

-
Flexibility – sessions fit into your real life, not the other way around
-
Mobility – ideal if you can’t leave work, school, family, or other commitments
-
Continued support – particularly useful between or after formal treatment
-
Real-world integration – support during meals, in social settings, or during exposure challenges

Can I work with a recovery coach if I’m not “sick enough” for treatment?

Yes. Recovery coaching is available no matter where you are in your journey—whether you're newly diagnosed, navigating subclinical symptoms, or in long-term recovery. If you’re unsure whether coaching is the right step, I’m happy to offer a free consultation to help you decide.
What types of support do you provide as a coach?

Here’s what recovery coaching with me may include:
-
Meal and snack support (virtual or in-person when available)
-
Exposure work (fear foods, dining out, grocery shopping, etc.)
-
Recovery education and psychoeducation
-
Relapse prevention planning
-
Accountability check-ins and goal tracking
-
Family and partner support coaching
-
Resource recommendations and referrals
Do I need to live in Los Angeles to work with you?

No! I offer virtual coaching for clients across many locations. If you're in the Los Angeles area, in-person options may also be available.

How often do we meet?

Most clients start with weekly sessions, and we adjust frequency based on your needs. Some clients choose additional text or meal support between sessions. Together, we’ll create a structure that works best for you.

Can recovery coaching help if I’m already in therapy?

Absolutely. Many of my clients are in therapy and find that coaching offers a hands-on, complementary layer of support. I can coordinate with your therapist (with your permission) to ensure aligned care.
What’s your approach or philosophy?
I practice from a mindful eating, Health at Every Size (HAES)-informed lens, affirming body diversity and your inherent worth. My coaching is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that full recovery is possible.
